MUSCAT, June 4 - The National Civil Defence Commission (NCCD) on Monday announced the end of the state of alert at the national organisation for emergency management, almost two weeks after the adverse weather conditions hit southern parts of the Sultanate leading to six deaths, including one member from the military, and incurring material damage. While the National Civil Defence Commission announced the conclusion of the state of alert, it hailed the efforts made by the national system for emergency management represented by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning System, the media, the sub-committees for civil defence in the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta, different sectors of the system which contributed, such as the Sultan’s Armed Forces, the Royal Oman Police, Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, government and private sector organisations, NGOs and individuals to address the effects of the tropical condition.

The commission commended the response of the citizens and residents to the instructions issued by the authorities. Since Mekunu, which hit the Sultanate on May 25 and till Monday, support teams were on alert for two weeks, completing 192 hours of continuous work, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said. The statement also said that most of the road works, including paving and finding alternative roads, are almost completed. The healthcare sector is almost back to normal, and water supply in most of the cities in Dhofar is almost restored. Power supply is back in both governorates.
